Swedish Author Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking Illustration by Artist, Debra Hall (2024) |
Pippi Longstocking lives in a cottage on the edge of a town in Sweden. Apart from a horse and a pet monkey Pippi lives alone, so she can do (and does do) exactly what she wants without fear or compromise!
Pippi has carrot coloured hair worn in straight pigtails, has freckles; long, long legs and wears big shoes.
Pippi is sharp-minded and incredibly skilled at doing all sorts of things, she is independent, adventurous and unpredictable; friends think her exciting and great fun. Adults can find her exhausting. Pippi's tales of travelling to exotic places around the world seem made up and unlikely and she’ll laugh it off if her truth is questioned; but there is always doubt left hanging on whether or not her wild tales are fibs or true.
Though Pippi is somewhat an enigma, she is free-spirited and without hang ups so is an inspirational storybook character for young children.
