The book has a comprehensive materials section, which tells you exactly what you need. Luckily, I had everything necessary to undertake the above project. It has advice on how to set your sewing machine, how to become proficient and confident with free motion embroidery. There’s a large section on choosing your subject, which fabrics and basic picture composition tips. The author covers appliqué and hand embroidery with lots of tips and techniques for using paints within your picture. There are a myriad of suggested projects for you to work on, and lots of advice for helping you chose your own. I copied the house project (see pics) and didn’t actually use the pattern paper as it was quite straightforward with lots of straight lines of sewing. I have attached my house design to a large piece of light canvas and will be adding to it.

I am very pleased with what I have learned and what I have produced in a few short hours. 

Really good book, for the beginner and for the more experienced crafter.
